iPAq 31* series gps problems

Although the 31* series works well in the cockpit, and is reasonably visible most of the time, it has one annoying habit. The internal gps cannot always cope with glider movements, so that when you look at the logger trace, odd things show up. Sharp jumps and back again, and winch launches hundreds of metres out of position.

Fortunately there is an easy fix, as they will connect to a BlueTooth external gps, unlike some PNAs, that will only connect to a 'phone. So on P8 of Setup System set your BT gps as Device A (my Holux GPSLim 236 is Generic; Com 6; 19200), and set the internal as Device B, Generic, Com 7; 9600.

Normally you will then use the external gps, but if lost for any reason, LK8000 will default back to the internal. Mine has never lost it yet.

Getting it all set up on the airfield can be a bit fiddly, but if you use the program provided by TiGuy (see the forum), this will put large shortcut icons on the screen, and makes it much easier.
